Matthew Gonser, AICP

Extension Agent, Community Planning and Design

Matthew Gonser is an extension agent for the University of Hawai'i Sea Grant College Program. His research and outreach activities focus on community planning and design; resource management, including water harvesting and stormwater management; and climate change resiliency and natural hazards mitigation. Focusing on the health and capacity of the physical and social environments, as well as the individuals and groups that inhabit and use those environments, planning and design play vital roles for constrained island communities.

Matthew is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). He is an active programs committee member for both the American Planning Association, Hawai'i Chapter (APA-HI), and Urban Land Institute, Hawai'i District Council (ULI-HI). Matthew is also the APA-HI liaison to the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and holds one of two Director-at-Large positions in APA-HI.
